make it monday: burp rag refashion

My first baby was a girl. I didn't know how to sew when she was born and so I didn't get a chance to sew things for her.

This time, I wanted to sew as much as I could. :)

I started with a pile of the plain 'ol Gerber tri-fold cloth diapers we used for burp rags with Millie.

And I turned them into a pile of boyish burp rags!

Aren't they pretty!?

Burp rag refashion:
Plain tri-fold diapers
Pretty flannel
Thread, scissors, sewing machine, etc.

1. Make sure diapers are washed enough times to be absorbent if new
2. Prewash and press flannel
3. Cut flannel into 6" x 16" pieces
4. Pin over center fold
5. Sew into place leaving a 1/2" seam and trim thread
6. Wash and dry burp rags so the ends fray

I love this idea. I might just make some for my next kid...whenever that is.

Hi Cas,
I found your blog from your daughter's birth board on BBC and just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your blog!

I have to laugh when I read some of your posts, because we seem very similiar. I have a Sept. 09 daughter and just had my second daughter in May. I took up sewing after my first LO and made burp cloths just like these from my Gerber prefolds that I had never used.

I also love your theme week idea and am kinda obsessed with "themey" things. My LO's baptism is on Saturday and I was gonna go with a plain cake, but last minute changed it to neopolitan ice cream, neopolitan layer cookies, and a 3 layer cake with strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla layers (you know... neopolitan... :)

Ok, well this has turned into a novel, lol but I have been checking in on your blog for awhile and just thought I would let you know that I enjoy reading it.
